CaYPT Committee is Recruiting
The CaYPT Committee is a team of student volunteers responsible for organizing the Canadian Young Physicists’ Tournament (CaYPT) and preparing the Canadian team for the International Young Physicists’ Tournament (IYPT). We are currently recruiting committee members for the following positions.
Information Team Member (1 open position)
Background and Job Description
The CaYPT Committee develops and maintains the CaYPT Management System (CaYPTMS), which is used for tournament registration, planning, scheduling, and score tracking. The core system is mature, and the Information Team is responsible for maintaining and improving the platform while ensuring it operates reliably during the competition.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot the CaYPTMS
- Prepare the system for the annual CaYPT competition
- Test the system prior to the tournament
- Operate and provide technical support during CaYPT
- Collect user feedback and implement improvements for future versions
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior high school or university student with a background in computer science or software development
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and related programming tools
- Familiarity with the CaYPT competition structure is preferred but not required
Term and Estimated Time of Commitment
- Sep 2026 to Aug 2027
- Sep to Dec 2026: 2 hours/week
- Jan to Feb 2027: 4 hours/week
- Mar to Aug 2027: 2hours/week
Student Program Team Member (1-2 open positions)
Background and Job Description
The CaYPT Committee has developed a number of educational resources and student support initiatives over the years. While some of these programs have been scaled back in recent years, we plan to expand and further develop them during the coming year. We are looking for committee members with a strong physics background and good communication skills to help support these initiatives.
Responsibilities
Projects may include:
- Developing and maintaining crowdsourced references for IYPT problems
- Expanding the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) library
- Supporting team liaison and student mentorship initiatives
- Developing a Beginner’s Guide to the CaYPT Physics Match (new initiative)
Preferred Credential
- Senior high school or university student with a strong background in physics (AP Physics or equivalent)
- Proficiency with office productivity software
- Experience with LaTeX is preferred
- Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Canva) is an asset
- CaYPT or IYPT alumni are preferred but not required
Term and Estimated Time of Commitment
- Sep 2026 to Aug 2027
- Sep to Dec 2026: 2 hours/week
- Jan to Feb 2027: 4 hours/week
- Mar to Aug 2027: 2 hours/week
